The geography

The Crimean peninsula is very mountainous in the southern part. The northern part, however, is rather flat to gently undulating. The mountain ranges in the south are not only a geographical barrier, they are also a weather and climate divide. South of the Crimean mountains on the Black Sea coast has a Mediterranean climate, where tropical fruits and wine; bridge very well thrive, so the Crimea is famous for the Crimean champagne. North of the mountains for the winter much colder, so that rule there more moderate climate.

The current capital of Simferopol, Crimea was already known in ancient times and was the Greeks. In the north the peninsula is connected by the isthmus of Perekop to the mainland, east of Crimea borders the Strait of Kerch. In the south of the Crimean peninsula, the highest elevations of the Roman Kosh (1545 m), Tschatyrdag (1527 m) and the Lapata (1406 m) are in the North is spreading a steppe landscape.
